Methanococcus Maripaludis:
Methanococcus maripaludis is placed in the domain archaea because its characteristics are similar to other organisms in this domain. For example, they are single celled organisms with no nucleus or membrane-bound organelles. This organism has also been classified for this kingdom because of amount of nucleic acids they have. Methanococcus maripaludis is also autotrophic and uses a metabolic process to obtain and maintain energy. Organisms in archaea are able to live in extreme enviroments, such as methanococcus maripaludis because it can only grow in places with no oxygen [9].
Methanococcus maripaludis is an irregular cocci shaped anaerobic organism that uses flagella for traveling. Although, their motility is weak. They also have only one thin layer above the plasma membrane. This organism grows in 35 to 40 degrees Celsius and can be found in sea marshes. Methanococcus maripaludis is a methane producing archaea. It undergoes an anaerobic metabolic process using CO2 and H2, making methane its final product. This organism also converts nitrogen from the environment into nitrogen compounds, which is useful for chemical processes. This organism is very useful for people because of its ability to grow very quickly under laboratory conditions, which then produce single colonies efficiently, and also for its effective genetic tools. Its genetic tools allow scientists to analyze microbial DNA from microorganisms. Methanococcus maripaludis is also useful for laboratories because of how simple the organism is [11].

Loki:
The organism, loki share very similar characteristics to the other organisms that were placed in the domain archaea, which is why they were placed in this domain as well. For example, they live in harsh environments, like the ocean, are unicellular, not motile, and do not contain a nervous system. Loki contains all these characteristics [11].
Loki is a recently discovered organism that is located in the ocean off the coast of Norway. This organism grows on hydrothermal vents, such as, underwater volcanos and black smokes. They can also be found on rocks called, Loki castles. While people may think this is where the organism gets its name from, but it actually gets it from the Marvel Comic's villain, Loki because of how confusing and complex they both are. Loki are tubed shape and use flagella to move around. Since this is a recent discover there is not much information on the organism [11].
