 Papilio Machaon: Old World Swallowtail

  • Kingdom= Animalia
  • Phylum= Anthropoda
  • Class= Insecta
  • Order= Lepidoptera
  • Family= Papailiondae
  • Genus= Papilio
  • Species= machaon

Papilio Machaon is apart of the animalia kingdom because of its shared characteristics with the other animals in this kingdom. The swallowtail is a multicellular eukaryote organism with a nervous system, is motile, reproduces sexually, and gets nutrition through ingestion. Everything listed other animals in this kingdom have. It does respiration through gas exchange in the lungs. This animal also has a digestion, cardiac, excretory, skeletal, and circular system [41].

Papilio Machaon is a type of butterfly found most commonly found in grasslands, hilltops, tundras, forests, and mountains in Europe and Asia. Like all butterfliess, the swallowtail goes through metamorphasis. This means it originally is a caterpillar then goes through this process in order to become a butterfly. The old world swallowtail is described as a rather large butterfly with overlapping wings. These wings then create a wing span of 5.5 o 8.8 cm in length. The wings are also yellow with black stripes and blue. On the hind spots of the wings are blue and red spots as well as producing tails. Papilio machaon, like all butterflies, are effective pollinators. These animals also eat leaves, nectar, and flowers [42].

Earthworm:

  • Kingdom= Animalia
  • Phylum= Annelida
  • Class= Oligochaeta
  • Order= Megadrilacea
  • Genus= Lumbricus
  • Species= terrestris

The earthworm has been placed in this kingdom because just like the other animals in this kingdom the earthworm is a multicellular eukaryote organism, is motile, reproduces sexually through whats called reproduction tails, has a nervous system, and gets nutrition from ingestion. This animal also does respiration through gas exchange [43].

The earthworm is a small animal, which can be found in moist environment. This animal is 7 to 8 cm long and sometimes it can grow up o 14 cm long! They are made up of ringlike segments called, annuli. Earthworms travel by these small bristles that cover its body. In order for the earthworm to survive it needs to live in a moist environment. This is why majority of the time a person will find this animal in the soil, unless it becomes too dry or too wet. They cannot stay in those harsh conditions because they are unable to breathe. For example, earthworms cannot be found in deserts of places with snow but can be found practically anywhere else. From living in soil, this animal gets nutrients from decomposing branches and leaves, which they then transport through their waste. This has a big impact on our environment because they are adding more nutrients and minerals to our ground [44].

Goldfish:

  • Kingdom= Animalia
  • Phyllum= Cordata
  • Class= Actinopterygii
  • Order= Cypriniformes
  • Family= Cyprinidae
  • Genus= Carassius
  • Species= auratus

The goldfish has been placed in the animalia kingdom because just like the other animals it reproduces sexually, uses ingestion for mode of nutrition, is a multi cellular eukaryote, and has a nervous system. The goldfish also uses its gills for respiration.

The goldfish is a fresh water fish that is most commonly known as an aquarium fish. The goldfish originally came from China and over years they spread worldwide. This animal lives in fresh water like, lakes, ponds, rivers, and murky water. The goldfish is normally orange but it can also be red, yellow, brown, and black. This type of fish is regularly small, coming to around 3 kg to 22 cm long and live 10 to 30 years. They have two pectoral and pelvic fins as well as three single fins- the dorsal, caudal, and anal fins. On the exterior of the goldfish, they have scales all over except for the face. This animal also has very big eyes and acute senses of smell and hear. This fish also contains teeth in the throat instead of the mouth so they are able to crush any food they swallow. People benefit from the goldfish because of pet trade, and especially in America for bait for when fishing [45].
